Find the Perfect Accounting Package

GuestPoster 20 Jun 2011 | : Tools & Resources, WEALTH BUILDING

Most of the small businesses that need an accounting software must first identify what are their businesses’ needs and which kinds of accounting functions they want to get automated.  There are plenty of accounting packages available in the market nowadays, and because of this, it is very necessary to know which one we really need.  The most simple type of accounting software is the single-entry system, which automates simple tasks such as record keeping and check writing. The next type is the double-entry system, and this type of accounting software is capable of doing functions for general ledger, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.  There are more sophisticated systems which can also support functions for payroll, inventory, invoicing, and fixed assets. And of course, the most high-end accounting programs have the capability to support sales analysis and time billing.

The most important things that we should be looking for in an accounting software are the following:

  1. Ease of use. This is a very critical and important criterion, because most small businesses are used to the ease and convenience of the excel programs.  Besides, the accounting itself is already a complicated task without a difficult program to learn.  After all, the accounting software’s primary goal is supposed to provide convenience to the users.
  2. Help & Support. Software of this nature, no matter how easy to use, is still complex.  And we cannot avoid that some people will face difficulties while setting up the software initially.  Thus, if the accounting software company can offer a quick and free customer help services either through telephone, email or chat is really a bonus.
  3. Functions. We must make sure that the accounting software that we buy supports the important accounting functions that we need to automate.  These functions include (but are not limited to) accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, banking, time costing, inventory control, fixed assets, job costing, conversions and updates, and reporting.

In fact, because here is a lot to think about when it comes to considering an accounting software, it would really be helpful to try some free accounting packages with trial versions that are found online.
