I haven’t personally tried selling my laptop to any of these sources as I’m still trying to get the last bit of use out of it. However, if I needed some quick cash and had an old worn out laptop I would definitely consider this idea.

The way these websites work is that you enter the make and model of your laptop and you get a quote indicating how much they are willing to pay you for your computer. So, even though I’m not ready to sell my laptop, I did a couple of quick searches to see how much cash I might actually get if I were in the market to sell it. At Cash For Laptops.com they would give me $230 for my laptop if it is in basic running condition.  But, they are also willing to buy it if it has problems.  For example, if my laptop had a bad hard drive, they would still pay me $210 for it.  If the laptop had a bad battery, they would pay me $195.  And, if it doesn’t power on at all, I would only get $50 for it. If I decided to accept their offer then they would send me a prepaid shipping package so I could mail the laptop to them. They state on the site that they will send payment within one day of receiving the laptop.

Another similar site that pays cash for laptops is My Laptop For Cash.com. Their site works in much the same way as Cash For Laptops.com. However, you have to wait up to 24 hours to get a quote whereas with Cash For Laptops.com you get an instant quote. This site also indicates that they generally send payment within 24 hours from the date they receive your laptop.

There are many other similar sites out there that will give you fast cash for your old laptop. This may be a good option for those of you with an old computer or two laying around the house.

Craigslist literally has tens of millions of users and is a great way to buy and sell things quickly on a local level.  The great thing about Craigslist is that you get paid in cash (do not accept checks) and since most transactions are local you are able to complete them quickly.

Just recently I listed my Kindle I on Craigslist and was able to make some quick cash which I then use to purchase a Kindle II.  It only took several days to find a buyer once I had placed my listing.  Once the buyer and I connected, we simply scheduled a time to meet to complete the sale. 

If you aren’t sure how much to charge for your item, just do some quick searches on Craigslist to see what other people in your area are charging for similar items. 

When posting something for sale, you should follow a few simple guidelines to increase your chance for a fast sale and quick cash.  First,  make sure to include a photograph if at all possible as people really like to see what the item looks like.  Second, include the price in the ad so people don’t have to contact you just to get the price.  Third, describe the item and provide details such as the color, size, brand name, age, condition etc.  Fourth, make it known if there is defect or flaw in the item so that you and the potential buyers don’t waste time.  After all, you’re looking to get some cash fast and there’s no point in wasting time by not being up front about the condition of the item.
